June/july
saw the foundry, a bar/gallery/pub, host to a rentner collective exhibition
for the second time in 2004. The basement gallery, the former vault
of the building (it used to house a bank) provided the perfect setting.
Firstly, it enhanced the slightly intimitating feel of the piece and
added to its conceptual rigidity. Secondly, the basement gallery is
a bit hard to find and therefore quite adequate to the elitist, yet
underground to the point that it is hard to find us style we have
been indulging in for a while now.
To sum up 'the vault' is to describe it as the logical and therefore
solipstic next step of 'this is rentnercollective', our previous show.
As such it had plenty of references to
its predecessor, yet pesented itself in a minimalistic, sculpted (Down)
way.
'The vault' was a collaborative project between Ahmed Baradah, Joseph
Ismail and Rupert Jaeger. It was set up as one project, yet with three
components, each created by one of the above artists. |
